Author, educator & storyteller

About Me.

Hello, I'm Christopher Proudfoot.

Children’s Author | Qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant | SEND School Experience

I visit primary schools to inspire children to read, write and discover that everyone has a story worth telling.

My story

I write stories that encourage imagination, empathy, confidence, and self-expression. They often explore themes such as kindness, resilience, emotional wellbeing, environmental awareness, and navigating challenges like anxiety or bullying in age-appropriate ways. My writing is shaped by day-to-day classroom experience and by the belief that stories can be a powerful tool for helping children understand themselves and the world around them.

I am a qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant and currently work in a SEND school. This has given me a strong understanding of inclusive practice, classroom dynamics, and the importance of adapting learning experiences to meet different needs. That experience informs both my writing and the way I work with children during school visits.

Alongside writing and working as a teaching assistant, I deliver engaging author talks and creative writing workshops for primary schools. Every school has its own values, priorities, and areas of focus, and I enjoy tailoring sessions to reflect what a school is working on at the time, whether that is a curriculum or PSHE topic, a wellbeing focus, inclusion, respect, resilience, or the school’s wider ethos.

My workshops support key curriculum aims, including spoken language, reading for pleasure, vocabulary development, narrative structure, and confident written expression. Sessions are inclusive and adaptable, and I aim to create a calm, supportive environment where every child feels encouraged to participate, explore their ideas, and develop confidence in their own creative voice.

Much of my work is inspired by a long-standing passion for the ocean, marine life, and fishkeeping. The natural world provides a meaningful and engaging foundation for stories, while ocean-based narratives give children an accessible way to explore environmental care, responsibility, resilience, and kindness.

I am the author of Ria the Anxious Hermit Crab, a picture book that gently explores anxiety and self-confidence through storytelling.

I understand how busy school life can be, and I do everything I can to make visits easy to organise and straightforward to run. Clear communication, careful preparation, flexible planning, and adaptable delivery help every session fit comfortably into the school day.
